The anticipation and giddiness of knowing I’ll be picking out makeup and beauty goods is comparable to the sensation a child is overcome with when he/she is surprised with the delight of having dessert before dinner. I don’t know of many kids who have had that surprise, but for the sake of setting the mood, that’s how I feel.
I counted down the hours to my visit even though I would be picking out a gift for a friend and nothing for me. Somewhere nestled in the back of my head my little deviled beauty conscious was already working the numbers to see how much I could stretch my budget so I could happily walk out with something too.
As I walked through the mall I saw my glorious destination and strolled right in! I gawked at Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes with puppy eyes. I keep promising to give it to myself…soon! Proceed visit to Sephora with more gawking and drooling over shadows, glosses, mascaras and cool packaging…
So what was the point of my visit?! Oh yes! A gift for a friend, not me.
I got a tip my friend likes Ralph Lauren’s Romance and took the 1.7oz ($62) and the travel size roller .34oz ($20) for a grand total of $87.74. Luckily I was splitting the cost with other friends.
Split the cost of one, really nice gift rather than give several disappointing ones because you all happen to be broke. Yeah, yeah, “it’s the thought that counts” but how much more thoughtful is it that several people put that much effort into getting ‘1’ something you know they’ll love?
Remember my deviled beauty conscious? There she was screaming in my ear “you deserve a tiny something, go find it”…well, I did run out of my boscia green tea blotting papers, and it’s only $10 for 100 sheets, and they are super amazing for touching up my makeup mid-day, and the green tea extracts are great for my skin…SOLD!
Walking to the checkout you’re flashed with an array of sample sized products on miniature sized counters, and I’m a sucker for them all! Nail polishes, lip balms, powders, makeup removers…and this really neat find:
I did get a yummy Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter by Pacifica (2.5oz) for $5. Smells like orange gummy worms actually. Thought it’d be a good addition to my makeup bag since my hands dry out from using the soap and water at public places.
During checkout I realized I hadn’t picked up my beauty insider birthday gift, woohoo!
I was so happy to see it was the Fresh Sugar Kissed Lip Treatment -a regular balm and a tinted balm. I had been eyeing these for a while, so brownie points for me.
That’s not all! I had more than 100 points so I got to choose from a few other samples. I went for another item I had been eyeing, the Urban Decay After Glow Cheek Tint in Quickie. Hey, if I can’t get a regular size, sample will do! + the awesome rep. Oscar was so sweet to give me a few extra samples of a Clinique serum and a philosophy moisturizer –happy dance!
After about 40 minutes of sniffing perfumes (Vera Wang Lovestruck), painting the back of my hands with pigments and gawking at everything I couldn’t get, I walked out a reasonably happy girl; even with my bag full of samples.
