Revlon Color Stay with Soft Flex

A few months ago I went looking for a new foundation at CVS and Revlon Color Stay with Soft Flex caught my eye. I noticed that this foundation was formulated for skin types- combination / oily skin and Normal / Dry Skin. I was looking forward to this because usually mid-day I have to pull out an oil blotting sheet, and when I am out at events I don’t want to worry about the sheen on my face.

By mistake I purchased Normal / Dry skin, though I didn’t notice after a few times I had used it. Even though I purchased the wrong skin type and a few shades too lite (no big deal, using a darker powder and bronzer made my skin look even) I really liked this product. I had minimal shine and it lasted for hours. I went back a few days ago determined to get my correct color and skin type. I thought I was a medium beige (240) but I am actually Natural Tan (330), I know, it seems like a big difference but I noticed that the shade names aren’t completely true to the actual color. I noticed three different colors looked almost the same but the undertones varied.

Now that I have the correct one for my skin type Revlon Color Stay with Soft Flex will definitely be a repeat purchase. The light weight formula is perfect for all-day wear, and it has SPF. It doesn’t cake or crease and I love that just a little bit of this product evens out my skin tone. I put on the foundation for the first time at about 7:00am and didn’t get home until about 10:30pm that night. So its claim that it lasts 24 hours- I believe it. I was so pleased to see that I was not excessively oily nor did I have a noticeable sheen. If it was an event night I would have quickly blotted with an oil sheet and dusted a little powder just to freshen the look. Definitely worth the price of almost $15.

The long-wear capability of this foundation is perfect for extra long days and definitely for a night out dancing.

Grab a mirror and hold up the colors you think are your match next to your forehead and neck and take a moment to really look at the shades for the one that fits you best.

Remington Pearl Ceramic Iron

I was in desperate need of a new straightening iron. The one I had was really damaging my hair because, silly me, I leave all of my hair tools in the bathroom, which is a BIG no no. I think the plates may have started to rust. My hair dryer isn’t blowing air as hot and intense as it did before. I have an FHI- an AMAZING hair dryer, and I think I may need to replace it too. I found at Walmart a ‘double ceramic’ 1-inch flat iron by Remington for $34.88. The plates are made with double ceramic and pearls offer a smoother glide with absolutely no snagging (this is perfect for creating curls) + shinier tresses. The ceramic also helps the plates stay smooth without product buildup, like hairspray.

Remington Ceramic Pearl-Infused Professional 1″ Straightener

Two of my favorite things: 1) it heats up in 15 seconds! 2) it has a hinge lock to keep the iron closed- perfect for storing away. Other features:

  • Up to 450 degrees F
  • Floating plates ensures hair flows freely through the plates with less heat damage
  • Digital control
  • Swivel cord
  • Automatic shut off after 1 hour
  • 4 year warranty! Woohoo!

I think this is a great product for the price. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and I really like it. Usually other irons leave my hair very flat after ironing, which I understand is probably the point, but this one in particular straightens my hair without leaving it flat. I get a straighter result but with a little body and natural thickness. Take your hair styling tools and makeup out of your bathroom. Think about it, constant steam from your showers makes its way into all of it and can damage everything.

Must-Have Mascaras

Mascara. The one product most women say they can’t walk out the door without and I’m one of them. There is something about well groomed eyebrows and defined lashes that just makes a woman look fresh and awake even if its just a trip to the grocery store. These are the lucky five that made it into my makeup stash and I can’t live without. But before you continue to read on consider purchasing an eyelash curler, it truly makes a difference in the final look of your lashes.

Everyday mascaras:

Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express-Glam Brown and Classic Brown

This is like lip plumper for your lashes minus the tingly feeling. I love that one coat injects the lashes with loads of fullness and a bit of length. The formula is ‘collagen-enriched’ which is what gives that plumping effect. I definitely recommend this if you have sort of thin and spares lashes but still have length, this isn’t great if you have tiny lashes because it’ll just clump up. The brush is great too! I don’t feel like I have to work too hard to work the product in my lashes, I just do some light zig-zag motions and it practically goes on by itself. The only complaint I had in the beginning was the smell, something about it is sort of acid-y and made my eyes water. I loved the product so much though, I got used to it.
Glam Brown and Classic Brown don’t have much difference to them. Glam  Brown has a bit more gray in it but overall you can’t see much difference between the two when applied.

Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express Waterproof-Glam Brown

I told you I loved this one! So much, it works perfect for beach days or whatever water based events you have going on. The hydrophobic (just means it’s water resistant) ingredients hold on to the lashes really well and help me stay looking made-up during the hottest of days.

CoverGirl Lash Blast fusion-Very Black

I received this one at the Vanidade Magia de la Moda 2011 fashion show along with a few other goodies. I’ve always shunned away any rubber bristles but hey, I got this as a gift so it’d be rude not to try it. I was surprised at how it applied, seems like the rubber material gives more move-ability in creating a shape. The end result was a set of lengthy flirty lashes that I just adored. Lashes don’t always have to be full of volume, you know. Only little frustration was that I couldn’t really reach the hairs in the outer corners because the brush is so fat and the tip is not pointed so a lot of excess product can sit as a blob on there. A little angle work with the brush though, and no big deal. I wear this one mostly for school which is when I wear my ‘flirty’ look of glossy lips, pinched-rosy cheeks and curly hair.

Going-for-the-drama-effect mascaras:

Revlon Grow Luscious by Fabulash-Blackest Black

I got this one at a great deal at CVS, it came packaged with a lipgloss and I only paid the cost of the mascara + I had coupons so, wohoo! I didn’t believe it made your lashes grow but yes, I did notice an extra bit of thickness in mine. Catch is, you have to continuously use it if not the new lashes fall out so, blah. This is one of my go-to mascaras for that false lash/ drama effect on a night out. I can’t help but feel like a sex kitten when I batter my lashes. The brush is standard but adds thickness and a good amount of length. I love that although it’s a standard brush, the point of it still lets me add precision in the inner and outer corners. I also love using this particular mascara on the bottom lashes for definition.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous-Very Black

My #1 all-time favorite lash-licious mascara mostly because of the fantastic wand! Honestly, the wand makes this product a hit. It is perfectly curved to be able to attend to each lash to separate and add more volume. I’m big on the outer corners because that’s where you truly pick up and extend your eyes and this wand does it. It is a buildable product so you can apply 2-3 coats for real drama without the clumps.

  • Replace your mascara every 3 months. Why? While you may have product left, it dries out gradually from pumping air into it during use and won’t give the same effect. Also, you’ll avoid bacteria build-up.
  • For best application start from the outer corner at the root (closest to the lash line) and bring the brush up to the tips in a ‘zig-zag’ motion or ‘wiggle’.
  • Don’t forget to define the last few hairs in the outer corner and inner corner. This will really help define and lift the eye.
  • Use dark grays or browns during the day for a natural look and leave the harsh black for night-time events.
  • Use your mascara to line your lower lashes by pressing lightly near the lash line and then sweep down through the lashes.
  • When using waterproof mascaras make sure your lashes are completely dry of any product before applying. This will ensure a true water resistant result.
  • Use an eyelash curler before applying mascara to open up the eyes and add to the length.

e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner – Plum Purple

This was my first e.l.f (eyes lips face) product. I came across the brand at Kmart and I truly couldn’t believe that all the products were well under $10 HUH???  Well, cheap price = cheap product right? I saw this beautiful purple liner and decided to be one of those customers that opens the packaging to try before she buys :/ Sorry Kmart!

lucky them that I loved the color and how smooth it went on, even with the brush it came with but I used my own to apply. Usually the brushes some cosmetics come with are made of cheap material which  won’t give you the best application despite how good the product is.
I rubbed it to see how smudge-proof it was and it didn’t budge. PERFECT! Not to mention the beautiful gradience it has AND it’s waterproof!

How much did it cost? $3 yup!… THREE DOLLARS! How awesome is that?!

I wore it to class on a day that I was in a huge rush with just mascara, a natural rose cheek and lipgloss. Purple eye makeup and brown eyes are a gorgeous match, by the way. Definitely want to try some other products by e.l.f. I’ve seen some of the blushes used by Samantha Schuerman on her YouTube channel -> (I love her pink hair!)

I saw lip glosses for $1, blushes for $5…if most all the products are this good, an on-a-budget girl can build a great base for her makeup collection.

Maybelline Stylish Smokes – Charcoal

Quad palettes are the best invention in the cosmetics industry! All the eyeshadows are harmoniously laid out and all you have to do is pop them on in the right order and TA-DAAA, you look like an instant pro.

This is my all-time favorite go-to palette for an evening look. This smokey combo goes with everything!

For about $6.99, this is a super steal!

Whether you’re learning how to do a smokey eye or a master at it, this is perfect for those unexpected evening events and you need to transform your look, quick! The colors in the picture look really vivid because of the lighting but are pretty much what you’re going to get to make a beautiful smokey eye.

This is what I do:

Eye primer is a MUST! It avoids creasing of the shadows and allows the shadows to last much longer.

Apply the lid color (a beautiful taupe-ish gray) with a shadow wand from the palette…

Use a fluffy brush (like a MAC 217) to apply the crease color. Use a windshield-wiping motion to spread the color and give it a smokey effect.

Use a stiff dome-shaped brush (like Smashbox #15) to apply the black shade (this one has little specs of glitter to add some sparkle) into the outer corners of your eye. The goal is to create a sideways ‘V’ shape. You can use this same brush to blend if the black is too harsh or grab the fluffy brush again.

Use the tip of the eyeshadow wand to line your eyes with this black shade too or use an angled brush or use your favorite eyeliner instead!

Last, highlight underneath your brows with this gorgeous shimmery silver using the tip of an eyeshadow wand. Add a little dot of this color in the inner corner of your eye to really bring in focus to your sultry eyes!

I get compliments every time I use this palette. It’s not overly pigmented but gives great color which is great because when I’m in a hurry I don’t have the patience or precision to sit their and overly work the color.

Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue UV-Lotion

Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue UV-Lotion

I was in desperate need of a new moisturizer without one key ingredient, alcohol. Why? not only does is dry your skin, which I dint’t pay attention to before but, my boyfriend has a close shaved beard. huh? Anytime after a kissing session, hugging or whatever brought his beard in contact with my face I would experience a stinging/burning sensation when putting on my Neutrogena SPF face lotion and whenever I’d get to close it would sting my eyes too. I don’t know how it hit me but I checked the ingredient label and there it was, ALCOHOL.

Before I was budget conscious, I used Origins White Tea Moisturizer ($39.50) and never felt that stinging or burning. so I guess it was a 2+2/aha moment. So I went on the hunt for a decent priced alcohol free moisturizer at CVS…FOUND IT! 🙂

For only $8 and a few cents (maybe even less, check your local stores), this product is oil-free, alcohol-free and has SPF 15 which is exactly what I needed because some I found had no SPF. It’s also perfect for my combination skin and for oily skin too because it’s water based. I didn’t realize my skin was so dehydrated until I used it; my pores drank it all up! My skin feels soft, perfectly balanced and I’ve experienced less oil build-up when I have makeup on. Huge thumbs up!

Some ingredients include:

Apple extract= antioxidant
Vitamin E=antioxidant that forms red blood cells (you need these to carry oxygen to the cells in your body; more cell production means less wrinkles)
Cyclopentasiloxane (I can’t pronounce this)= conditioner for the skin
Let me know what how it goes for you!
